Dublin is a safe and welcoming city with a low risk of security concerns for visitors. While demonstrations can occasionally take place, they are usually peaceful and cause minimal disruption. As in any major city, petty crime such as pickpocketing may occur, particularly in crowded or tourist-frequented areas. We recommend basic precautions such as keeping valuables secure and being mindful in nightlife venues or when using ATMs. Local emergency services are professional and responsive, and the city is well-prepared to manage any seasonal weather-related issues such as rain or storms.
In case of emergency, dial 112 or 999 to reach police, ambulance, or fire services.
Ireland offers a high standard of medical care across both public and private sectors. Emergency services are reliable, and a wide range of medications is readily available through local pharmacies. Visitors from EU countries should carry a valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) to access emergency public healthcare if needed. For non-emergency concerns, private clinics and general practitioners are accessible, though referrals may be required for specialist care. Overall, health risks are minimal and the environment is well-suited for international travellers.

Recent developments, including associated flight disruptions and impending timelines related to planning the meeting, made it prudent and necessary to select an alternative and available location. Therefore, ICANN made the decision to hold the ICANN84 Annual General Meeting, originally scheduled to be held in Muscat, Oman, to take place in Dublin, the Republic of Ireland. This decision ensures that ICANN can run a successful meeting both in person and online.
No, ICANN84 will take place on the originally scheduled dates 25–30 October 2025.
Each ICANN Public Meeting draws attendees from over 150 countries, making global accessibility and travel safety essential to its success. While Oman remains a safe host country, the recent events in the regional airspace have caused closures and flight disruptions. Given this uncertainty – and the possibility that travel to and from Oman could remain difficult – ICANN made the decision to relocate ICANN84 now to allow adequate time to secure a suitable alternative venue, given the impending planning deadlines for the meeting. Acting promptly allows ICANN to avoid a scenario where the meeting could be forced into a remote-only format and helps to ensure a stable and well-attended event.
With limited time to conduct the search, Dublin was the only option that met all of ICANN’s required criteria for an Annual General Meeting (AGM). ICANN54 – also an AGM – was held at the Convention Centre Dublin in 2015. The ICANN Meetings Team is already very familiar with the convention center meeting spaces, logistics, and processes along with familiarity with local hotels and support services. This avoids the need to first assess the viability of the location before selecting.
