ICANN BOARD-GAC Consultation in Brussels 28 February and 1 March 2011

During the recent ICANN meeting in Cartagena, the ICANN Board of Directors and Governmental Advisory Committee agreed to meet at some time prior to the upcoming Silicon Valley/San Francisco meeting in order to devote significant time in the interest of resolving the outstanding issues the GAC has identified with the new gTLD process.

The purpose of the meeting is to:

1) Identify the specific differences between Governmental Advisory Committee ("GAC") advice and the current implementation of the GNSO New gTLD Policy recommendations embodied in the Applicant Guidebook.

2) Through discussion among Board and GAC members, either:

(a) arrive at an agreed upon resolution of those differences; or
(b) for those issues not resolved, identify what differences remain. This meeting is not intended to address the requirements/steps outlined in the Bylaws mandated Board-GAC consultation process.

Morning and afternoon coffee will be available.

Lunch will not be provided for observers.

Meeting location: The Square Brussels Meeting Centre, Mont des Arts - Kunstberg, Brussels (this is where we held the Brussels meeting in June 2010). The consultation will take place in Room 400, on the 4th Floor. There will be signage downstairs to guide people to the location.

Registration: for those attending in person, you will be required to collect your badge from the registration desk. On 26 February, badges will be available in the Arc Foyer; on 27 and 28 February they can be collected outside Room 400 from 7.30am. As seating is limited it is very important that badges are worn at all times.

For those participating remotely: Through adobe connect you will be able to listen to the meeting, in addition to viewing presentations and live scribing. There will not be any interpreters for this meeting - neither the GAC or the Board have used interpreters for any of their previous meetings and it was not a request for this consultation.

Internet connectivity: will be the same as you would expect at an ICANN meeting.

RSVP: on 2 February we posted an announcement asking observers wishing to attend the meeting to advise us by 8 February via an RSVP email address. Individual emails have been sent to all those who responded to the RSVP to confirm attendance. As the current combined attendance numbers are close to capacity for the seating allocated we are unable to extend an invitation for additional attendance from interested community members.

We appreciate your interest in this meeting, and we will keep the community updated as we work through the final details of the logistics and agenda for the meeting.
